Times Review Posted by
Pedgey @ 14:05 GMT
The British newspaper "The Times" has finally gotten around to printing a review of EMI, and to be honest, it sounds like the reviewer just didn't understand what the Monkey Island games are about at all!
You can find a scan of the review here, sorry about the quality, but it's the best I could get.
Thanks to Soc for the news and the scan :)
UPDATE: This just in from http://espanol.escapemi.com "coincidentally, a Argentine newspaper called Clarin did the same bad thing like Times reviewing EMI. Is a coincidence or the general public newspaper don't feel anything like us to the games, adventure games & others games?"

| Saturday, January 20, 2001 | | EMI for PS2? Posted by
Huz @ 9:18 GMT
Got a Playstation 2? Lucky you. Here's a quote from an IGN article entitled 'Off the Record' that might interest you:In the next few weeks, LucasArts is going to announce several new games for several platforms, and one of those games will appear on PS2, and it's going to be somewhat of a surprise. We promised not to say anything yet, but think of it this way, when was the last time you saw a graphic adventure on PS2? You soon will. Another hint: "Hoo-hoo-hoo-he-he-he-he haw haw haw-haaaaw!!!!!" What's it all mean? Why is the last hint too bizarre to be much of a hint at all? And what's this "incredibly exciting game announcement" mentioned in the latest LucasArts Insider? Time will tell...

Just saw this announcment from Bill Tiller over at Mixnmojo. Bill Tiller is to leave LucasArts in the next couple of days. Most of you will know that Bill was responsible for all the Background art in CMI... which is considered by many to be the best art of the series. We wish Bill all the best in his future job.

In-Jokes and Voices Posted by
Huz @ 17:53 GMT
Three pieces of news from The World of Monkey Island:
Firstly, the site has compiled a huge list of in-jokes - over 60 in total! I'm sure you didn't spot a few of them.
Secondly, an interesting piece of news I saw on the site: the Weevil's Annotation Assistant page has posted instructions on ripping voices from EMI! It's quite an involved process and I can't say whether it works or not, but check it out here.
Finally, a bunch of EMI saved games have been added to the site for those who've lost their own or want to skip to a certain part in the game.

| Sunday, January 7, 2001 | | Secret Lines!!! Posted by
Mandalor @ 17:04 GMT
LucasArts have always something hidden in their games, but this time, it's too weird. Is it a flaw, or what is it?
Check it out yourself:
Open the i9n.m4b in your "Monkey 4" folder. Then open the bundle and look at the file called "Script.tab". Save it/convert it to *.txt and open it in winword. You'll discover 230 pages of EMI script lines. You'll probably think they're all from the game, but they really aren't. There are some "secret lines" included... Seems like LucasArts had a hard time figuring out how long the game script should be...
Try these positions in the document:
EPLC033 H1EL014 H2GB030 OZGB001
Now THIS is something to take a look at!
BIG thanks to Stefanie Uhr for the news.
Note: These files do not seem to be included in the English version. So far, I have been told that people with the German or Spanish version of the game can access these files.

- Confused by EMI's mildly annoying filing system puzzle? Then insert your Spanish-speaking brain, and head over to Monkey Island Argentina where they have a full list of all possible combinations. Check out some of the names available. :)
- The Plunder 3D project, a spiffy Monkey Island mod for Half Life, showed some sign of life this week as its site was given a pretty makeover. Check it out!
